In the past, I had children with my father-in-law without my husband’s knowledge. However, in later years, I faced the consequences of my actions…

My name is Nadia, and I first met my future husband, Timofey, at the hospital where I was interning, and he was my supervisor. Our relationship blossomed after my internship, leading to our marriage. When Timofey introduced me to his parents, I found myself instantly drawn to my future father-in-law. It was hard not to admire him: a retired military doctor, jovial, handsome, and in great shape. Following our wedding, my father-in-law arranged for us to work together at a military hospital.

With Timofey frequently away on business trips, I found myself longing for companionship and eventually invited my father-in-law to our home. Despite my best efforts to conceal my feelings, he understood my intentions. “Yes, I’ve felt a connection with you since the beginning. But I don’t want to jeopardize my son’s happiness. However, since he’ll be away often, it’s better for it to be me than someone else,” he confessed. I was overwhelmed with emotion, deeply in love, and unable to resist.

Over the years, I bore two children, believed to be Timofey’s, but fathered by my father-in-law. All seemed well until one day when Timofey returned unexpectedly from a trip. The fallout was inevitable: our marriage ended, and my father-in-law severed ties with me, even terminating my employment. He chose not to divorce his wife, instead confessing everything and seeking her forgiveness, which she granted.

Timofey relocated, maintaining contact only with his mother. Despite seeking alimony, the court denied my claim. My father-in-law continues to support us financially, acknowledging his responsibility. As my children grow, they increasingly ask about their father and grandfather. I struggle with how to explain the truth to them. Rejected by my own parents, I rented an apartment, found work, and enrolled my children in kindergarten.

While my children flourish academically, I remain alone. My father-in-law, now retired, still refuses to communicate with me or the children. Only now do I realize that he was the love of my life. Timofey remarried shortly after our divorce, but he never introduced his new family to my father-in-law. Despite everything, I harbor no ill will toward him; he was always a good man, but I never loved him.
