We were all taken aback when my brother surprised us by marrying a girl from the village out of nowhere. However, what unfolded next was beyond anyone’s expectations, including mine and my parents’.

We were all stunned when my brother suddenly married a girl from the village out of nowhere. But then, something happened that none of us, not even my parents, could have anticipated.

“Who’s there?” a woman’s voice demanded. “It’s the landlady, open the door quickly!” “Landlady? This is our home, leave immediately!” I insisted, reaching for my phone to call my brother. After some meowing sounds, the door finally creaked open. I entered and found a disheveled girl wearing my mother’s robe and my slippers. “Who are you?” my mother asked, puzzled. “I’m her!” I pointed to my portrait on the wall. “She’s in the afterlife!” the girl exclaimed. “Get dressed and leave, I’m not in the mood for this,” I retorted firmly.

But the girl stood her ground. “I’m not going anywhere! I live here! And until Anton arrives, I’m staying put!” It dawned on me then that this stranger had made herself at home in our apartment. Ceramic cats, lace napkins, and old ladies’ magazines adorned the space. I called Anton, who pleaded with me not to argue and promised to explain everything.

It turned out that the girl, Katia, was Anton’s new girlfriend from the village. She had been living with us for 10 days already, much to my surprise. Anton insisted that it was their shared apartment, but I couldn’t fathom why she should live with us when she didn’t contribute financially.

As time passed, Katia’s presence became increasingly intolerable. She even sent some of my clothes to her sister in the village, assuming I was deceased and wouldn’t need them. Anton failed to find a job, and tensions rose as Katia’s funds dwindled. Refusing to finance their lifestyle, I stopped buying groceries and ate out instead.

When Katia confronted me about not buying food, I stood my ground. Fed up with the situation, she announced her pregnancy and declared her intention to move out. I informed her that as the sole owner of the apartment, she had no right to stay. Anton, influenced by Katia, sided against me, forcing me to seek legal advice.

Ultimately, I decided to sell the apartment and split the proceeds with Anton. I moved out with my belongings, leaving Anton and Katia to start anew in her hometown. Despite everything, I was never invited to their wedding—an unexpected turn of events that left me and my parents bewildered.
