That evening, her husband left for a business trip, and Lesia was alone at home. Suddenly the intercom rang…

Lesia had been married for three years, hoping with her husband, Mykhailo, for the blessing of a child. Despite their prayers, their home remained childless. Their lives were otherwise filled with activity and engagement. Lesia’s younger brother, Ihor, often found himself in troubling predicaments due to his youthful impulsiveness. Yet, Lesia, ever the caring sister, consistently came to his rescue, extricating him from various troubles.

One evening, as Mykhailo set off on a business trip, Lesia found herself alone at home. The tranquility was interrupted by the unexpected ring of the intercom, prompting Lesia to hasten to the door, anticipating another one of Ihor’s mishaps. However, the visitor who appeared was not her brother but a young woman holding a baby, about six months old.

Introducing herself as Marta, the visitor disclosed that the child was Mykhailo’s daughter. Marta, an orphan in need of shelter, requested to spend the night with Lesia. Overwhelmed by the situation, Lesia empathized with Marta’s plight and reluctantly agreed to offer her temporary refuge.

Marta explained that Mykhailo had not mentioned his wife and was currently away on a trip with another woman. Feeling betrayed and hurt, Lesia grappled with her emotions. When Mykhailo returned, he showed no remorse or explanation, leading Lesia to realize she could not continue with such a partner.

In the aftermath, Lesia extended her support to Marta and her child, recognizing the innocence of the infant amidst the turmoil. Marta eventually found solace and stability in marriage to Lesia’s brother, Igor, forming a loving family with him. Lesia, witnessing their happiness, forgave Marta and embraced her role as the child’s godmother, finding solace in the newfound family unity.
